Second Year: In Review

so far, this semester has sucked. i don't just mean classes or social or anything specific like that, actually, most parts have been quite fun or beneficial. But as a whole, i think i'll look back on this pathetic four-month span and say "what the poo!" mostly, its because of this university. don't get me wrong, i love my choice of universities (not so much colleges, though), but...
1) tuition, i know, everyone is stretched for money right now, but louisville, everyone is stretched for money. its hard enough trying to finance education without being in a recession, but to add an increase is just lemon juice in the wound. when life hand's you lemons, squirt them in the under-privileged's open wounds. now, i am not under-privileged, i've always been fed and had a roof over my head, i come from an educated family and will always have my parents to help me if i break my leg or my car breaks down or i fail out of school. but who the poop wants to go ask their parents for money?!?!?!?! i'm trying to learn to live on my own! isn't that what college is for? in kindergarten they said we were being prepared for elementary school. in elementary school they said it was for middle school. in middle it was for high school. in high school, college. in college, life. WHEN DO I GET TO JUST LIVE!?!?!?!?!
sorry, back on the ranch...
louisville, if you need money, why not cut your some of your coaches' pay a couple hundred thousand, paying them more doesn't really seem to be helping that much. you're an academic institution, you're supposed to be educating me, not entertaining me with sports. i'm cool with having sports at the university level, but do we really need to be spending that much? our women's field hockey team did quite well last season and they have a fraction of the money our basketball and football teams have. it takes one to start a trend louisville, be a leader!

2) meal plan. really louisville, really? on top of our tuition going up and our employment opportunities going down, you saddle us up with this? because of this meal plan, my scholarship didn't cover everything it was supposed to. i am supposed to get tuition, room and board, and a stipend for books and other necessities. but apparently that's not what the fine print says... i get tuition and a small stipend for room, board, books, and anything else i can do with the money that doesn't even cover the cost of room and board. so, once again, i have to go to my parents and ask them for some money in order to pay for pay for next semester, i'll probably have to get them to pay for my books, and i'll have to get them to pay the down payment at bettie johnson, cause you can't just pay the 40 bucks anymore. i like to consider myself independent, but then louisville keeps reminding me that i'm not, i'm still dependent on my parents who have jobs and money. oh frabjous day! calloh! callay! (huh, apparently frabjous is now a real word)

3)Business school. ok, so i'm an economics major here, i love econ, i love analyzing what moves people will make, it's fun and i love doing it. but then people have to come along and mess it all up. back in high school, i read a book that involved commodities trading and such, it was really interesting. so my mom told me to take an econ class at eku, so i did. it was the boringest thing i'd ever done. but i stuck with it (cause i'm cool like that) and took the next class, and absolutely quite liked it. (the problem was that the first one was microecon and the second one was macro). then i took contemporary problems in economics with fred ruppel. best thing ever! so fred convinced me to become an econ major. i went to louisville with the expectation that econ here would be roughly similar to econ there. boy was i wrong. i've had four econ classes here and i hated three of the four of them. one of the reason's that these have sucked so much is that the econ department here is a part of the college of business instead of its proper place: arts and sciences. economics is a social science, it analyzes what people are going to do in a given situation, most often with money. but in reality it just predicts what people will do with a given set of parameters, the problem economist have, is that there are no clearly defined parameters governing money in the real world. the university of louisville has butchered economics. they have pimped it out to the corporations so that all it does it generate money for the wealthy. (now, i need to add here, that i am not against the rich getting richer by playing their own games, and i'm not against learning how these games work so that i can be one of the rich guys getting richer. what i'm against is not being taught how to analyze the game and derive the governing or how to anticipate the player's next move, i resent being told the rules and told how to play the game to win. this is not economics, its glorified money laundering.) alright, so where was i? ah! business school! so, i didn't want to take the business school classes which are required for the BSE, long story short, i switched to a BA cause i had to take almost no business school classes. yay! point to me for beating the system! no, wait... so when scheduling classes for next semester, i was looking at the upper level econ classes, which have prereqs, of course, but then i started to look at the prereqs, and discovered that most of them were other business school classes that have other business school classes! the system was beating my beat of the system! so i've decided to drop my econ down to a minor (which i already have) and go back to A&S with math and philosophy minor. i don't think i'll up it to a major though, too much language.

so, all in all. louisville's administration (specifically the business school)can go do things to themselves that are anatomically impossible. and i can hopefully get on with my life. au revoir
